Gilberto Gonzalez, BS Public Safety Professional | NJ State Certified Fire Service Instructor| Hazardous Materials Specialist

Gil is fire service professional, and hazardous materials specialist with more than a decade of experience improving responder safety, operational readiness, and emergency response capabilities in one of the nation’s most challenging urban jurisdictions. He is recognized for leadership in safety training, risk reduction, and workforce development, preparing firefighters and first responders to operate effectively in complex and evolving hazard environments.

His work spans incident management, hazardous materials operations, policy implementation, and multi-agency collaboration, with a consistent focus on operational excellence and the protection of both responders and the communities they serve. That public safety career is complemented by distinguished military leadership as a U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sergeant, where he directed training, personnel development, and mission readiness in high-consequence environments.

With the Newark Fire Department, Gil has served as a firefighter on the Hazardous Materials Unit and a Level 2 Fire Instructor at the Training Academy. He leads and facilitates training that strengthens firefighter competency and emergency response effectiveness, serving as an instructor and mentor for the next generation of firefighters and emergency responders. His work supports the evaluation and refinement of response protocols, promotes compliance with firefighter safety and incident management principles, and strengthens consistency, accountability, and readiness across operations.

From 2001 to 2011, Gil served in the United States Marine Corps as a Staff Sergeant and Platoon Sergeant, with responsibility for personnel management, mission planning, operational readiness, training execution, and risk management in demanding domestic and international environments.

At Vista, Gil brings a trainer’s discipline and a first responder’s operational judgment. He helps organizations build safety programs that personnel will actually use under pressure, connecting policy, training, and field practice. His hazardous materials, incident command, and multi-agency experience strengthens preparedness for complex and emerging hazards, while his Marine Corps leadership background reinforces accountability, workforce development, and a culture in which responder safety is treated as a core operational standard.
